Starter spins but car wont start. Let off the button and it still is spinning. Press the button with your foot off the brake and the starter quits spinning. It will stop if you engage and then disengage the e-brake (but still won't start). Just out of the blue. No problems prior to this. DodgeCares Registered Joined Apr 17, 2012 2,020 Posts. In such a scenario, you'll hear the starter spinning, but the engine won't crank. Engine Cranks Slowly (Rare) It's possible for high resistance in the starter solenoid to cause the contacts to burn. As a result, there will be excessive resistance in the starter motor, potentially resulting in an engine that cranks slowly. It's a loose starter bolt. a loose starter bolt will pull on the flywheel crooked and not let the throw out bearing release the flywheel. probably didn't add enough shims(or washers). it's more likely that the person changing the starter didn't know why the bolt had a thick washer called a shim, or the more likely, 4 or five washers. add shims.

It sounds like the opposite of what you should do but it works. The force of the spinning shafts isn't enough to force the gear up unless it is nice and slic. When it happens, pull the small red/blue wire off the starter solenoid. If it stops, the ignition switch is faulty. If it does not, either the starter solenoid has stuck the contacts toether or the starer is dragging. and not releasing. ttop88 Member Mar 12, 2007 42 0 6 indiana Oct 13, 2007 #3 Is it a mini starter?.
I start the truck and the starter stays engaged and spinning….
My truck cranks and starts just fine but sometimes the starter stays engaged and keeps spinning from 1-3 seconds after the engine fires. Normally as soon as the engine is running the starter retracts. One time the starter kept going for at least 5 seconds and I turned the key off. I immediately re started it and had a normal start. The wire from the relay will be much smaller - maybe 16AWG - all it does is energize the solenoid to drive the starter pinion to the flywheel. You could also have a sticky starter switch, try shooting some lube in there to make sure that isn't the problem (this happened to Errorwife's ST a couple weeks ago). #7 ADV Sponsors El Guero , Sep 1, 2009.

Starter keeps spinning after the engine has started. Burned up one starter already and replaced, still same problem. So I replaced the ignition starter switch, still same problem, then replaced starter relay at fuse box still same problem. Also sometimes the starter will spin even with the ignition switch in the acc mode. When the P1 contact is closed, no current flows in coil P and the solenoid plunger is held in by coil H. When the ignition switch is opened (after engine start-up), contact P1 opens, and the starter motor disengages and stops. The drive pinion is pulled out of engagement with the flywheel by the return spring in the main solenoid. The trick is to find the stuck connection. That's probably going to be on one of three places: 1) the starter solenoid, 2) the starter button, or 3) the wiring between the starter button and the solenoid. To test the solenoid, unplug the connector from the solenoid that has the small wires.

Go to start it the next day and it starts with the key in the run position, (good thing my foot was on the clutch.) The starter keeps on cranking after it is running. I shut it off. The truck has an immobilizer but still cranks without the fob in the run position. I have no idea where to start looking in the electrical system for the issue.

If for some reason the voltage from the battery keeps the solenoid engaged then the starter keeps spinning. So yes it could be the key is keeping voltage going to the solenoid which you can test by taking the wire off of the starter and hooking a volt meter to the end. Then turn the key like you were trying to start the engine. Two large to the battery and starter. Small terminals if 4 one to the negative circuit and one to the positive circuit and if you have three terminals the negative circuit is internal. Now if your solenoid has 4 terminals it can make a big difference as to how it is wired because it could be tripped off ether circuit. Jul 7, 2022. Thread starter. #1. Symptoms: When you turn the key to the start position, the starter starts cranking, but the Jeep doesn't start, and when you let off the pressure that keeps it at the start position, it continues cranking and won't stop cranking until the key is turned off. Update: Like Ron said below, it stops cranking after 10 seconds (tip start). Short history. Kainam. Starter spinning up indicates the solenoid is working. The solenoid is just a switch to connect the starter to the battery while using a lighter guage (and cheaper) wire to the control switch. The Bendix is either not engaging on the starter shaft or you're missing some flywheel teeth or starter gear teeth. 2009 - 2014 Ford F150 - Truck starts but starter keeps spinning. - 2011 f150 SCREW 5.0 140k I have an intermittent problem that is getting worse. Wire the starter motor DIRECTLY to the battery. If it spins in the proper direction you know there is something wrong in the wiring. TYPICALLY the starter motor has a direct wire to the (+) battery terminal and is grounded to the engine case. There is a solenoid wired in there to the kill switch and starter. It is possible that there could be an issue with your ignition switch. If the ignition switch is stuck in the start position even after the engine has been started, this can cause the starter to continue turning with the engine running.

To disengage your start attempt press the off switch on the ignition rocker. The computer looks for an input from the brake pedal but it is not required to continue cranking, nor is the. Now, when I turn it on, Windows won't start. After the usual BIOS messages appear, a spinning circle of dots appears on a black screen with the "Asus" logo. Patrick H said: If the starter is spinning with the key off, it could also be the ignition switch, but the grinding/ gear clash (that's what is sounds like) is indicative of a faulty starter. It has not run with the key off since I replaced the starter yesterday. The previous started did that. Starter runs continuously Some Ford owners encounter a situation where the starter run continuously or keeps running even after the engine has started and even after they’ve removed the key from the ignition. At first, this may make you think the starter drive is binding. Or you may think you have a bad starter relay.

When the ignition switch is turned to the start p [osition and the purplewire is energized, the solenoid pops out and when the ignition is released the solenoid rod SHOULD pop back down ( a spring assists this). If the solenoid rod sticks, the switch inside the solenoid assy will stay in contact letting the starter continue to spin.

Remember to stay safe, and wash. Trying to start on low voltage,ie low battery, jumper cables, will cause the starter solinoid contacts to weld themselves together thus causing the starter to keep running even with key off or motor running, charge the battery and change the solinoid.
